Medicare is a federal or state government-grant that provides health security to individuals aging 65 and above and under 65 but is a beneficiary of Social Security Disability Insurance or End-Stage Renal Disease. Medicare is a vital aspect of health and financial security that should be widely discussed. Here are the things you should know if you are planning to benefit from this health coverage:
Two Main Parts: A and B
Starting from the basics, Medicare has two main parts, namely Part A and Part B. Each section is discussed below:
  • Part A. This coverage handles the fees on your hospital stays, nursing care, and other health services at home. However, this is only applicable if you had ten years and more working history, and you are a diligent taxpayer. You have an annual deductible to your salary, which usually starts at $1,340.
  • Part B. This coverage handles your fees for outpatient services such as flu and other shots. It can also cover blood-sugar monitoring and other medical equipment that is mentioned in the policy.

Since Part A and Part B of Medicare are considered the most basic coverage, both do not cover prescription drugs. However, you can still get a stand-alone coverage such as the Plan C or the Medicare Advantage Plan or the Part D or the Prescription Drug Plan.

What Does Medicare Not Cover?
Although there are plenty of services that Medicare covers, it is still vital to have a glimpse of the essentials that it does not cover. Below are some of them:
  • Ears, eyes, and teeth services. Medicare does not cover the routine services of the mentioned. It only covers complicated and emergency procedures.
  • Travelers. If you plan to travel to different countries, you can expect that the basic Medicare plans will not apply to countries outside the US. Only Advantage Plan can cover worldwide services.
  • Long-term care for the elderly. Medicare cannot cover this service unless you are willing to pay a higher price to make it a part of your plan.
  • Other routine care, including plastic surgery, regular hand and foot care, and acupuncture, cannot be covered.

There’s still a lot more that you should learn about Medicare. This article is only the tip of the iceberg, but the information provided is substantial to help you begin!
